CORFU. The olive oil collected will be distributed to the 32 pupils who participated in the olive collection.

The Kato Korakiana 1st Vocational High School and Music School pupils had the opportunity to get to know and be introduced to the process of olive oil production from the collection to the transportation of the olives to the mill.

This action took place for the first time at the Kato Korakiana 1st Vocational High School as part of the formation of a Group of School Units with nearby schools and in order for pupils and teachers of the different schools to exchange ideas, collaborate, use the school equipment and, above all, implement good practices.

The collection of olives from the Vocation High School's olive trees and the production of olive oil was the first action of the 'See - Learn - Do' programme.

An unforgettable experience

The children were happy to participate, living a unique experience that will remain unforgettable. However, the necessary preparations were made before the collection of the olives with the required equipment of the Vocation High School's agricultural department.

"The aim of the Group is to develop such actions, so that what is taught in one school can be transferred to the others through their collaboration. The experience was incredible. The pupils were happy and excited and participated with great enthusiasm," said the Director of the Kato Korakiana 1st Vocational High School Giorgos Pissanos, clarifying that the action was carried out in accordance with the rules of the school.

The pupils were divided into groups of four and under the supervision of their teachers they shaked 8 of the olive trees that exist in the schoolyard, separated the leaves from the olive fruit and collected it in baskets, gathering the required amount.

Olive oil

The next step was the olive mill. The olives were turned into precious olive oil, giving a lot of joy to both pupils and teachers. The result was very satisfying and delicious. The pupils tasted the olive oil, which was the result of their efforts.

As Mr. Pissanos told Enimerosi, the olive oil will be placed in recyclable bottles with the necessary information and then distributed to the 32 pupils who participated in the olive collection.

The action will continue with the other schools of the Group of School Units at the level of their capacity and as long as there is olive fruit on the trees.
