CORFU. Wreaths and flowers were placed at the Polytechniou Heroes Memorial.
Political parties, workers' unions and other organisations took part in a ceremony today for the 49th anniversary of the events at the Polytechniou. Wreaths and single flowers were placed at the Polytechniou Heroes Memorial.
Corfu once again remembered the student uprising at the Polytechniou in 1973, which signalled the beginning of the end of the military junta. The slogan at the time "Bread - Education - Freedom" has been written in the pages of modern Greek history and remains a landmark in the freedom and democracy of the country.
Wreaths were laid by Central Corfu Mayor Meropi Ydraiou, Dimitris Metallinos on behalf of the Municipal Council, municipal and regional councillors and representatives from SYRIZA, KKE, MeRA25, the Workers' Centre and others.
