General strike Wednesday 9 November - who is taking part

The General Confederation of Greek Workers (GSEE) and the Civil Servants' Confederation (ADEDY) have declared a general strike in the private and public sector tomorrow Wednesday 9 November.
With the slogan "Wage increases now so that we can live with dignity" these large unions have declared a national strike so that workers in the private and public sectors can protest in a coordinated way against the increase in cost of living and freezing of wages.
Strike gathering
Nearly all the unions in Corfu will be taking part and there will be a strike gathering at the Workers' Centre at 10:00. 13 unions took part in a press conference yesterday, announcing that they would be taking part in the strike.
Who will be on strike
Employees in the private and public sectors will be on strike - local authorities, banks, hospital and psychiatric employees, primary and secondary school teachers, farmers, accountants, taxi drivers, lorry drivers and pensioners.
Journalists
There will be no news reports tomorrow either as local and Athens journalists will also be on strike. The strike will begin at 05:00 on Wednesday 9th and end at 05:00 on Thursday 10th and involves all the mass media (print, television and radio, online) in the public and private sectors.
Ferry services
The Seamen's Union is also taking part in the 24-hour strike and there will be no ferry services from 00:01 on Wednesday until 24:00.
Airports
The Federation of Civil Aviation Authority Employee Associations (OSYPA) will also be taking part in the ADEDY strike. Air traffic controllers will be having a 6-hour work stoppage from 10:00 to 16:00 and Civil Aviation Authority employees will be taking part in the 24-hour strike. As a result, 50 international and domestic flights have been cancelled and another 42 rescheduled.
