CORFU. An online calendar with all the events of the island will be available in early December - Promotion of Corfu as an attractive global destination all year round.
Corfu tourism bodies are joining forces in order to extend the tourist season. A valuable tool in this effort is the online calendar with all the events of the island, which is expected to become available in early December, giving an additional incentive to visit throughout the year.
The Association of Corfu Travel Agents (AOCTA), the Corfu Hoteliers Association, the Corfu Federation of Tourist Accommodation Owners (OETK), the Ionian Islands and Western Greece Union of Tourist Guides and the Ionian Commerce and Enterprise Federation spoke extensively on this issue at a press conference held by the Ionian Parliament yesterday, on World Tourism Day.
The calendar will be available to the public at www.corfuevents365.gr and www.corfuevents365.com and will include events and proposals by bodies, cultural and sports associations, choirs, philharmonic bands, museums, gastronomy associations, private and non-private individuals.
Events
Through this portal, the visitors will have the opportunity to be informed about the events that will take place on our island during their stay, while they will be able to choose their holidays, based on themes and interests, and the events they are interested in. The aim is to extend the tourist season during the winter months and to promote the island as an attractive global destination all year round, by promoting alternative and thematic tourism and creating programmes, actions and events. In other words, the aim is to highlight Corfu's specific identity and musical and architectural tradition, as well as to promote the cultural assets of the island.
“Corfu is a unique island which, apart from the sun and sea, can also offer a wide range of activities and unique experiences for every target group. We will promote these experiences”, said the President of AOCTA Spyros Halikiopoulos.
Best in arrivals and revenue
This year's tourist season was much better than last year in terms of both arrivals and revenues. However, the complete recovery of tourism must go hand in hand with corrective changes and structural strengthening of the tourism product, with sustainability being a top priority. However, the local authorities must also join in this vision of growth, with the creation of a multi-purpose area for events and conferences in Corfu and the upgrading of the island's medical services (hospital, ambulance service).
The Corfu Hoteliers Association President Babis Voulgaris, the President of Corfu Federation of Tourist Accommodation Owners Pericles Katsaros, the President of the Ionian Trade and Enterprise Federation Kostas Mouzakitis and Sissy Savvati from the Union of Tourist Guides referred to the necessity of cooperation and the next day.
Present was also the Deputy Mayor for Tourism Panayiotis Varouchas, who referred to the promotional activities planned for the first time this year by the cooperating bodies with the support of the Central Corfu Municipality for the celebration of World Tourism Day with events in the town centre.
Mr. Varouchas said that the portal with the calendar of events will work perfectly with the Municipality's website (visitcorfu.gr), which had 70,000 users and more than 200,000 visits within a year.
