CORFU. The new fleet of leased vehicles was presented this morning.
Central Corfu and Diapontia Islands Municipality's new fleet of refuse collection vehicles was presented this morning. The 17 new vehicles, which use the latest technology, have been leased in order to improve the collection of mixed and recyclable waste as well as large objects.
Mayor Meropi Ydraiou presented the new fleet at Corfu Biological Treatment Plant in Eth. Antistaseos (Emporiko Kentro) with all the local authority officials in attendance.

"From an international example to be avoided we have become an example to be followed and from now on we will be using best practices for recycling and cleaning services in Central Corfu Municipality, which I believe other municipalities will follow," said Ms. Ydraiou. She thanked all those who had assisted, Deputy Mayors and local officials and said that the pre-election promises to clean up the municipality were being fulfilled.

"In our efforts to rectify mistakes and negligence and to make improvements, today demonstrates that we have fulfilled our pre-election promises to clean up Corfu," she said.
In addition to the 17 leased vehicles, one has been donated by the Kaoussis company and another was obtained through the Philodimos funding programme. Central Corfu is one of the few municipalities in the country that has been able to use a leasing programme.
"There are more to come through European programmes which will be only for the brown bins for bio-waste," the Mayor added. "There will be vehicles only for brown bins and others only for yellow bins with paper."
Ms. Ydraiou said, however, that this wasn't enough for Corfu to remain clean but that there needs to be a change in mentality and behaviour.

The new vehicles are as follows:
