CORFU. Achillion Palace will reopen for the summer season with a special reduced ticket price, due to the work that is being carried out inside the building.
The Hellenic Public Properties Company S.A. (ETAD) announced that the Achillion Museum will be open to the public from June 1 to September 30. However, due to the work that is being carried out inside the building, the public will be able to visit only the Museum's outdoor areas, where they will be able to tour and enjoy the gardens with a special reduced ticket price.
The works at Achillion continue to be carried out by ETAD with financial resources from the ESPA Programme, in cooperation with the Ministry of Culture and the Ionian Islands Region. At the moment, restoration, maintenance and modernisation works are being carried out Achillion's four main building, as well as in the surrounding area. At the same time, the buildings' wall and ceiling paintings are being restored, while the sculptures and other works of art are being maintained and restored by the Ministry of Culture Directorate of Conservation.
Approved works
All work is being carried out in accordance with the studies, technical specifications and methodology approved by the Ministry of Culture and under close supervision by ETAD and the Ministry of Culture with the aim of protecting the monument and restoring the buildings from the damage they have suffered, by repairing and enhancing them with respect to the monumental value.
Within 2023, visitors will be able to admire the restored statues in the unique gardens of the Achilion Palace. It is worth noting that while the works are being carried out, impressive newer findings concerning the painted decoration on the ceilings and walls of the Achillion Palace have come to light. The aim now is to highlight the painted decoration and make it more visible to the public.
New findings
The increase in the Ministry of Culture's work due to the new findings compared to the originally planned one, as well as the increase in the works that are being carried out to the monument by the contractor, will make it possible for the Museum to open its gardens to the public from 1 June to 30 September.
At the same time, ETAD is preparing all the necessary actions (studies, horticultural works, etc.) for the restoration of the entire forest, so that people can also visit this area in the future.
ETAD in cooperation with the Ministry of Culture is working daily, in order for the works to be carried out smoothly and completed within 2023. In combination with the important findings that have come to light, it will be a pleasant surprise for both local and foreign visitors.
Cultural events
The fact that the Achillion Museum will reopen this summer is important for the course of this year's tourist season in Corfu, as the international tourism bodies' predictions are extremely promising for the island.
