Old Philharmonic Society’s Music Museum reopens from 4 April

CORFU. This year marks the 150th anniversary of the death of the composer Nikolaos Halikiopoulos-Mantzaros (1795-1872), who was also the artistic director of the Old Philharmonic Society (1841-1872).
The Old Philharmonic Society’s ‘Nikolaos Halikiopoulos Mantzaros’ Music Museum reopens to the public on Monday 4 April 2022.
The Old Philharmonic Society’s Music Museum is the only one of its kind in Greece and has now also received recognition by the Ministry of Culture. This year marks the 150th anniversary of the death of the composer Nikolaos Halikiopoulos-Mantzaros (1795-1872), who was also the artistic director of the Old Philharmonic Society (1841-1872). The Museum will honour the anniversary with exhibits such as the composer's piano, original music sheets, portraits and the first complete musical version of the Greek National Anthem ‘Hymn to Freedom’ (London, 1873).
The public will once again be able to visit the Music Museum from Monday to Saturday, 9:30-13:30.
The Museum is now ready to receive visitors, adhering to the necessary measures. Thus:
- Only fully vaccinated or people who recovered from Covid within the last six months are allowed to enter.
- A maximum of 20 people are allowed at the museum at the same time and they must stay 1.5 meters apart.
- Visitors must use antiseptics before entering and when leaving the museum. Use of a mask is mandatory.
- Visitors should not stay at the museum for more than 20 minutes.
- No one will be allowed to access any other area of the Philharmonic Society building other than the museum and its rooms on the 1st floor.
- Guided tour for groups can be arranged with the Museum's managers.
