Business community asks the Region to support them from energy crisis

CORFU. Proposals to solve the problems caused by increase in the cost of energy and shortage of basic necessities and raw material.
The Ionian Islands Regional Governor Rodi Kratsa met on Thursday 31 March 2022 with the Corfu Trade Association President Yiannis Alegris and the Board members Christos Lavranos, Stelios Sofianos and Kostas Diavatis.
The issues discussed at the meeting were the problems created by the increase in the cost of energy and the shortage of basic necessities and raw material due to the war in Ukraine.
The Corfu Trade Association presented its proposals for the Government to address the crisis of trade, such as reduction of VAT on basic goods from 13% to 6%, immediate reduction of the Special Consumption Tax on fuel, increase of the subsidy rate on energy bills by 75%, immediate increase in the number of installments for the payment of coronavirus crisis debts to the State (120 installments), conversion of the refundable deposits in non-refundable, etc.
The President Yiannis Alegris also requested that a representative of the Corfu Trade Association takes part in the Ionian Islands Region’s meetings with tourism bodies regarding tourism development.
The Ionian Islands Regional Governor Rodi Kratsa said that she informed the Corfu Trade Association President and Board members for her meeting with the Competition Commission President Yiannis Lianos, as well as their discussion on the ongoing research on fuels, transport and basic necessities for the proper functioning of competition and the protection of trade and consumers.
The Regional Governor informed the Corfu Trade Association Board that she is preparing an informative teleconference with the Competition Commission and the General Secretariat for Industry, while she promised to convey the Association’s demands to the Government. She went on to say that “We must protect the business community and the consumers from the severe energy crisis and price increases.”
