CORFU. The Corfu Tourist Accommodation Owners Federation President Pericles Katsaros presented a series of demands to the Corfu SYRIZA MP Alexandros Avlonitis regarding issues that have not been resolved despite continuous efforts in the responsible Ministries.
The Corfu SYRIZA MP Alexandros Avlonitis recently visited the Corfu Federation of Tourist Accommodation Owners and spoke with the President Pericles Katsaros about the issues that the industry is facing.
MP Alexandros Avlonitis said that the government must take immediate measures to support tourism businesses, which, after the pandemic that hit the Greek tourism product as a whole, have to deal with issues arising from the sudden increase in prices and the impact of the war in Ukraine.
He also asked for an update on current issues in view of the new tourist season and the forecasts so far, how ready the businesses are and the challenges that the industry will face due to the new emerging forms of tourism (nomadic tourism, etc.), as well as the problems expressed by customers in Corfu's tourist accommodation establishments.
Then, Mr. Katsaros presented a series of demands to Mr. Avlonitis regarding issues that have not been resolved despite continuous efforts in the responsible Ministries and asked for his support.
They mainly discussed issues regarding the need for financial support to make rentals more modern, the final resolution of the issue for granting permission for simple use of the seashore, the right to increase the build factor for utility rooms in the context of upgrading accommodation establishments, as well as the important issue of regulating the market of short-term rentals in order for the same terms and conditions as rental accommodation to be applied.
They both agreed that they will be in constant contact in order to exchange views and solve the issues that the Corfu tourism industry is facing.
