ATHENS. And their inclusion in the GReco Islands programme.
The Ionian Islands Regional Governor and European Climate Pact Ambassador Rodi Kratsa met in Athens with the Secretary General for Energy Alexandra Sdoukou and her colleagues to discuss the energy transition of the Ionian Islands and their inclusion in the GReco Islands programme.
The Regional Governor presented the islands' condition in terms of their energy dependence, as well as the Ionian Islands Region's planning for the energy transition, aiming at the possibility of energy saving and, at the same time, the production and self-sufficiency of clean energy.
She referred to the Region's programme for the creation of Energy Communities and the promotion of Circular Economy, both through the ESPA 2021-2027 Programme and through the Ionian Islands Region Solid Waste Management Organisation (FODSA). She requested the Ministry's cooperation in examining the big companies’ proposals to contribute to the GReco Islands programme in the Ionian Islands Region.
The Secretary General for Energy Alexandra Sdoukou said she was interested in the possibility of a pilot programme for the Diapontia Islands and Paxos and promised to visit Corfu, as well as the islands of the Corfu Regional Unit, to examine the data.
It is worth noting that the GReco Islands programme has a €100-million budget, while the Ministry for Environment and Energy will be responsible for the programme and for the energy transformation and environmental protection procedures on the islands, starting with the small ones.
Mrs. Kratsa offered as a gift to Mrs. Sdoukou the specially designed for the Ionian Islands Region scarf inspired by “The colours of the Ionian Sea”, which the Secretary General liked very much.
