CORFU. Work has begun on the construction of a pavement in Agios Yiannis between the bus stop and KTEO.
The long-awaited road improvement work in Central Corfu began at last yesterday. The contract had been signed in December.
The work began with the construction of a pavement in Agios Yiannis, which locals have been waiting for to ensure the safety of Junior High school pupils crossing the busy road with fast-moving traffic.
The pavement is being constructed between the bus stop and KTEO and Deputy Regional Governor Kostas Zorbas paid a visit yesterday to inspect the work. "The work in Central Corfu began yesterday," he said. "We are making continued efforts to improve people's everyday lives."

The project 'Improvement of Tzavros-Paleokastritsa Rd and connecting roads - €4,577,400' includes both technical and road surfacing work. According to the Deputy Regional Governor for Infrastructure and Technical Works Manolis Orphanoudakis, the project is expected to be completed soon and, in the meantime, road surfacing work is also expected to begin in order to improve the road network, which is in disrepair.
