Teacher recruitment procedure at Corfu School of Tourist Guides is ongoing

ATHENS. According to the Tourism Minister, courses will begin on January 10.

Regarding the Corfu School of Tourist Guides, the Tourism Minister Vassilis Kikilias, in response to a question submitted by the ‘Elliniki Lysi’ MPs Apostolos Avdelas and Konstantinos Chitas, said that the award of points and the submission of the tables by the three-member Committee, in order to validate them and recruit the teaching staff.
 
When it comes to the students’ registration, the Minister said that it has already been completed. In fact, given the absence of the Corfu School of Tourist Guides Head due to illness, the verification of the applications of the candidates to be registered for the new educational period 2021-2023 was successfully completed by the Rhodes School of Tourist Guides Head, in order to avoid delays. Moreover, the academic year 2021-2022 at the Ministry of Tourism’s Schools of Tourist Guides is set to begin on 10 January 2022 and end on 31 August 2022.
 
As far as the staffing is concerned, in each academic period the Ministry of Tourism recruits administrative and teaching staff for a limited period of time, in order to meet the urgent needs of all the Schools of Tourist Guides. More specifically, for the 2021-2022 academic period, following the adoption of the decision ‘Approval for the initiation of the recruitment procedures for 98 people as teaching and administrative staff at the Ministry of Tourism’s Schools of Tourist Guides, with a fixed-term private-law employment relationship, for the academic period 2021-2022’, the Ministry issued the decision ‘Allocation of the approved number of teaching and administrative staff to be employed under a fixed-term private-law contract during the academic period 2021-2022 at the Ministry of Tourism’s Schools of Tourist Guides’ and the relevant Notice, a summary of which was published in the press on 28 October 2021.
 
The Athens and Thessaloniki Schools of Tourist Guides and have already proceeded with the recruitment of the teaching staff.
 
 
The School’s accommodation
 
Furthermore, regarding the issue of the School's accommodation, we would like to bring to your attention that the Corfu Municipality has renewed for the current academic period the licence for the use of a room and office in Faliraki for the School’s operation, while the Ministry of Tourism is in contact with the Ionian University, so that the latter can provide the School with a classroom of the University.
 
Regarding the educational excursions of the second year of the Corfu School of Tourist Guides, both the total number of days and the places of interest per area are specified in the Schools’ Regulation, according to which “the programme may be enriched or adapted depending on the objective conditions (...) by decision of the School’s Head in cooperation with the accompanying teachers”. The primary concern of the Ministry of Tourism is to ensure that the educational excursions are completed on time and in the best way possible.
 
Finally, with regard to teaching hours, the provisions of the Schools of Tourist Guides Regulation are applied, according to which “courses are being held daily from Monday to Friday in the morning and/or afternoon. Exceptionally, courses may also be held on Saturdays, depending on the needs arising during the implementation of the educational programme, after approval by the  School's Head”.
