CORFU. The races took place through the historical centre of Corfu Town, setting off from the St. Michael & St. George Palace and finishing in Liston.
The “urban trail” races took place on Sunday afternoon for a second year in a row with great success and hundreds of participants. The races, which were organised by the Central Corfu and Diapontia Islands Municipal Cultural and Sports Department in collaboration with the “Corfu Mountan Trail” and the local branch of SEGAS (Hellenic Athletics Federation), included a hiking route with the participation and support of the Corfu Hiking and Mountaineering Club. Musical events were, also, held in different parts of the town with the participation of various choirs.
The races were held on selected routes through the historical centre of Corfu Town, setting off from the St. Michael & St. George Palace and finishing in Liston. The programme included a 6.5km walk and 7km & 14km road races. It should be noted that hundreds of participants from Corfu, as well as other regions of Greece and abroad, participated in this year's races. Most of the proceeds will go to the Parents Association of Children with Neoplastic Disease – Childhood Cancer ‘FLOGA’.
The Deputy Mayor for Culture & Sports Chrysoula Tombrou thanked the Clubs and Associations for the successful collaboration, as well as everyone who worked and helped organise the races. She also gave warm thanks to the Kovertoura Choir, the Evropouli ‘Ioannis Kapodistrias’ Choir, and the ‘Koryfo’ Choir, as well as to the ‘Koryfo’ Cultural Association.
