Sinies Cultural Society representing Greece in UAE

CORFU. Greece will be the honoured guest country and Sinies will be the sole representatives.
For a week, the UAE will enjoy a taste of Greek music and dance with Sinies Educational & Cultural Society representing Greece and promoting its traditional culture. Sinies was chosen out of 90 Societies and Associations to represent the country at will take place in the emirate of Sharjah under the auspices of Sharjah Cultural Institute, the government and His Highness Sheikh Dr Sultanbinβ Mohammed All Qasimi.
For the week 23-30 October, Sinies Educational & Cultural Society will take part in the events as a member of the national branch of CIOFF, official partner of UNESCO for intangible cultural heritage.
Greece will be the honoured guest country and Sinies will be the sole representatives. "We were chosen to represent the country two years ago at CIOFF World Conference in Chile," Sinies Cultural Society President Yiannis Garnelis told Enimerosi. "We are delighted that our Society was chosen out of 90 Societies and Associations."
Tourist promotion
The presence of the Society in the UAE is a first-class opportunity to promote Corfu and attract another market to the island. Culture, tourism and economy are intrinsically linked in all efforts to encourage tourism to the island.
22-member delegation
There will be 22 members in the group, who will promote the Greek cultural heritage - dancers, musicians, handcraft worker, painter, photographer and chef - led by Yiannis Garnelis, Society President and board member of the Southern European division of CIOFF.
During the events there will be an exhibition of traditional, local Corfu products, and visitors will be able to taste pastelli, mantoles and olive oil as well as the famous koum kouat products.
There will also be an exhibition of folk art - ceramics, wooden carvings and traditional Corfu sandals - as well as a Corfu photography exhibition and a display of traditional headwear.
Following an invitation from the Greek Embassy, Sinies Cultural Society will also be present at the Greek stand at the international exhibition EXPO-Dubai 2020 performing an artistic programme dedicated to Mikis Theodorakis.

CIOFF (International Council of Organizations of Folklore Festivals and Folk Arts) is an international non-governmental organization in Official Partnership with UNESCO. It was founded in 1970 and its mission is to preserve and promote traditional culture and folklore.
