CORFU. The MEDfreeSUP group is holding a meeting on Wednesday, 13 October.

The MEDfreeSUP group invites you to a meeting at the Josephine Cafe at 17:00 on Wednesday, 13 October to discuss the reduction and elimination of single-use plastic in our daily lives.

We will initially present two solutions for reuse which are being pilot tested in Corfu businesses these weeks:

- The Corfu Cup system: a multi-use cup which you can 'rent' for takeaway coffee.
- The HellaStraw, which is made of stainless steel and has been produced especially for the catering industry by the owners of a cocktail bar in Naxos.

The main part of the meeting will be a structured discussion about the future of our island. In small groups, we will discuss the difficulties of reducing the use of single-use plastic and possible solutions to overcome them and how these can be implemented.

MEDfreeSUP (Mediterranean free of Single Use Plastic) is a 2-year project to create a methodology to support Municipalities and catering and tourist businesses in Mediterranean coastal and island regions in reducing and eliminatiing single-use plastic.

Central Corfu & Diapontia Islands Municipality, Corfu Chamber of Commerce, Corfu Catering Association, Corfu Hoteliers Association and the Ionian Islands Environmental Foundation are taking part in the project.

In Greece, the project is supported by the 'Athena' Research Centre and is co-funded by the EU EIT Climate - KIC .
