CORFU. The renovation of Corfu 4th and 6th Primary School, the 2nd Thinalia School Centre, the Agios Mathaios Primary School and the Avliotes Primary School schoolyards has been completed.

The project “Renovation of Corfu Municipality schoolyards” has been completed. Specifically, the Corfu 4th and 6th Primary School schoolyards, as well as those of the 2nd Thinalia School Centre, the Agios Mathaios Primary School and the Avliotes Primary School have been restored.

On 3 July 2020, the contract for the work was signed, with a budget of €77,560, with a discount of 22,44% on the budget in the study. In all of the abovementioned schools, the yards had been damaged due to lack of maintenance, resulting in issues regarding the safety of students.

In its statement, Central Corfu Municipality said that due to the Covid-19 restrictions, the deadline for the completion of the works has been extended until 3 November 2021.

The work involves laying of acrylic-based sports rubber surfaces with markings and reconstruction of the asphalt surface where necessary. Work has been carried out at all of the abovementioned schools and only a few of the planned works remain to be done. In the initial work at Corfu's 4th and 6th Primary Schools, some problems were found, which the contractor had been asked to repair. These schools have now been fully renovated.

The contractor is responsible for maintenance for up to 15 months after the completion of the work.

Deputy Mayor for Technical Works Nikos Kalogeros said: “Following the programmatic agreement we have with the North and South Corfu Municipalities, where the Central Corfu Municipality is obliged to complete all the ongoing projects that had been initiated by the single municipality, we had excellent cooperation with the North and South Municipalities’ Technical Works Department officials and completed the project.

I would like to thank Central Corfu, as well as North and South Corfu Municipalities’ Technical Works Department officials for their cooperation so far.

The Municipality’s aim is not to lose any funding or projects that concerns the other municipalities from the Public Investment Programme, the Philodimos Programme and the Rural Development Programme, concerning road and rural road construction.
