CORFU. The Ambulance Service (EKAB) Workers΄ Union met yesterday in Athens with the Ambulance Service President Nikos Papaefstathiou to discuss serious issues concerning their sector.

The meeting took place in an amicable atmosphere and there was willingness to help and provide immediate solutions to some of the issues discussed.

In a social media post Workers' Union President Christos Kypriotis says: “Some of the issues we raised to the President are the urgent need to upgrade the ambulances, the need to service the ambulances in Corfu, the establishment of a base in North Corfu, the future of our auxiliary colleagues, the strengthening of our sector in the summer months, the need to relocate the service, the daily transfers by ambulance outside Corfu, the transfer by ambulance of asymptomatic COVID-19 cases, the operation of the expected water ambulance and other issues concerning our sector.”

“Perhaps the most encouraging news from the Corfu EKAB workers’ meeting with the president," he added, "was the request for additional staffing, with 22 permanent recruitments planned, in order to establish the North Corfu base.”
