CORFU. Expenses to be covered by Ionian Islands Regional Administration.
Following the decision of the Minister for the Environment and Energy Kostas Skrekas, a recipient for the Lefkimmi waste bales has been designated. The decision regarding the transportation of the waste was signed last week and vindicates the long-standing demands of Lefkimmi residents of Lefkimmi, who had even come up against squads of riot police, as well as the current Municipal Authority.
Following Mr. Skrekas' decision, the waste bales that have been lying for three years at Lefkimmi landfill in Mesorachia will be transported to the Palairos landfill, “Kakopetria”, which is a legally-operating landfill.
The decision stipulates in particular that the Solid Waste Management Organisation (FODSA) is obligated to transport the waste bales and keep records of the transport documents. The Ionian Islands Regional Administration is responsible for the payment of the usage fee to the landfill in Aitoloakarnania as well as transportation costs.
