CORFU. An exhibition dedicated to Maria Callas will take place from July 11 to October 31, as part of the celebrations of the 200th anniversary of the 1821 revolution.
The exhibition “Maria Callas – World Priestess of Opera”, organised by the Hellenic Public Properties Company (HPPC) S.A. and the Management of the Achillion Museum, is a unique international event, which is taking place as part of
the celebrations for the 200th anniversary of the 1821 revolution, co-organised by the Maria Callas Greek Society, the Ionian Islands Regional Administration and the Municipality of Central Corfu and the Diapontia Islands.
The exhibition will include personal items, books with her sheet music and works of art related to the life and work of this great performer, as well as eight authentic
costumes from the TEATRO DELLA SCALA DI MILANO.
On Friday 9 July at 19:30 a lecture will be given by Helena Matheopoulos, Associated Editor of Opera Now Magazine, entitled "Maria Callas the Sacred Flame".
The official opening of the exhibition will take place on Sunday 11 July at 20:00.
On Wednesday 1 September, the world-famous soprano Myrto Papastefanou and
piano soloist Ioannis Tsanakaliotis will perform a live concert in the gardens of the Achillion Palace.
There will also be a special event for children on Friday 17 September at 18:00 entitled "The children of Corfu do not forget Maria Callas, the girl with a
thousand names", organised and presented by the writer and lawyer Katerina Lagoux in collaboration with the Ionian University.
The opening ceremony, the lecture and the concert will be broadcast as a livestream via this link.
Visiting hours daily from 08:00 to 20:00.
Free admission for Ionian Islands residents on July 11, 12 and 13.
Safety measures will be strictly adhered to in order to prevent the spread of Covid-19. The maximum number of participants per event will be 100 in order of priority. Temperatures will be taken on entry and the use of a mask is mandatory. A distance of 1.5m per seat will be maintained during the events.
