ATHENS. Legislation is being presented to Parliament today to cover the costs of those who are uninsured being taken into private hospitals and clinics if necessary.

The Ministry of Health has announced that, "Legislation is being presented in Parliament today whereby uninsured patients who are hospitalised in regular beds in National Health System hospitals can be transferred to private hospitals and clinics if necessary at no expense to them. This legislation will be retroactive. This already applies to ICU beds following the ratification of the relevant legislation in 2018, which up to now has not been implemented."

According to the Ministry, "This measure was implemented retroactively in September as it was the current Government that secured the funds for the State Insurance System (EOPYY) to cover the costs of the private clinics for the hospitalisation of uninsured patients in ICUs."
