CORFU. A post-mortem examination was carried out today to determine the cause of death of the 4-month-old baby at the hotel in Agios Giorgos Argyradon.
The tragic incident took place duting the night between Thursday and Friday at the hotel where the family was staying.
The Medical Examiner Yiannis Aivatidis categorically ruled out choking from feeding - a possibility which he investigated thoroughly. He also carried out a coronavirus test, which was negative. This was done not to determine cause of death but because it is demanded by international protocol before a body can be sent home.
Dr. Aivatidis also confirmed that there was absolutely no sign of bruising or injury on the body. In his report the Medical Examiner declared it Sudden Infant Death Syndrome.
The 30-year-old British mother is receiving psychological support. She was admitted to the Psychiatric Clinic at Corfu Hospital after suffering shock on discovering the baby and trying to throw herself off the balcony.
