CORFU. The outdoor chess tables are back where they once belonged.
A Municipal crew started work yesterday on placing two outdoor marble chessboards that had been moved from the Old Port. In cooperation with Corfu Chess Club the Municipality decided to move the two chessboards to this lovely, shady area in the Upper Square - back where they once belonged many years ago when the club opened its first little office and Spyros Skembris - now a Grand Master - began his career.
Deputy Mayor for Technical Works Nikos Kalogeros is overseeing the work and he told Enimerosi that the small square has been properly prepared with metal dividers so that chess players, young and old, can have their own special area.
