CORFU. Following the decision to remove waste from Corfu the President of Corfu Federation of Tourist Accommodation Owners made the following statement.
"I would like to express my satisfaction with the positive response to the request to remove waste from Corfu to Kozani.
This development vindicates the Federation, which, right from the start along with others, said that the waste should be removed from the island. It is a positive move but we need to wait for the official announcement from the Ministry to see what the conditions are for the waste removal to be implemented.
We mustn't relax, however, as the problem won't be solved just by taking the waste off the island. We must go ahead as quickly as we can with the construction of the Integrated Waste Management facility and, more importantly, continue to increase the percentage of recycled materials according to European guidelines.
I would like to thank all those who contributed to finding a solution to this problem that has beleaguered our island."
