CORFU. "Are we reliving the horror of the Nuremberg Laws and ΄Untermenschen΄ with the Greek people being orchestrated and dreaming of a white Christian nation?"

Fotini Vaki, former Corfu MP and SYRIZA parliamentary representative, asks the question in a post on her personal profile. She comments on the reactions she has read regarding the accommodation of refugees in the Ionian Islands.

"The supplicant was sacred in Ancient Greece, which the 'authentic' Greek fanatics boast about without knowing anything about it. Supplication was an accepted institution in ancient Greek society - a society that is oft referred to by the zealots and evangelists of our pure-blooded race who send out warnings about being 'polluted' by the 'invaders'.

Refugees are people who have been uprooted and are without hope, without AMKA, medical care and a school for their children. Most of us are grandchildren of refugees and grew up hearing stories at first-hand about coming here as a refugee and the 'hosts' treating them as pariahs, calling them 'seeds of the Turks' and the women 'sluts'.

Most of those yelling at others are perhaps children of immigrants. Shouting at the outsider who is 'expendable', 'a piece of rubbish' or 'subhuman' and who will take our homes and jobs and will abuse what we ' hold sacred' - our pure, immaculate society.

I have read reactions and comments regarding the accommodation of refugees around the country. There were tears for the thousands of people trapped in Moria and then anathema when solutions for relief and equal distribution touch my 'backyard'.

I have seen discrimination between refugees and immigrants with the former being more deserving than the latter, whose lives are worth nothing and I wonder if we are reliving the horror of the Nuremberg Laws and 'Untermenschen' with the Greek people being orchestrated and dreaming of a white Christian nation.

Refugees in Corfu? An island which has the Panayia ton Xenon (Holy Mother of Strangers), an island mainly made up of newcomers rather than indigenous people should welcome them with open arms."
