ATHENS. He blames Regional Governor Theodoros Galiatsatos for the rubbish problem.

Minister for Development and Investment Adonis Georgiades doesn't rule out the temporary removal of waste from Corfu. According to what he said on Open TV channel this morning, the refuse issue is a "Waterloo of insurmountable proportions" throughout the country apart from the Regions of Epirus and Western Macedonia, which didn't follow the SYRIZA plans and today have modern waste processing facilities.

He made special reference to the problem with the rubbish in the Ionian Islands Region where the ESPA funding wasn't fully used - for which he held the Regional Governor Theodoros Galiatsatos responsible. He mentioned Corfu and said that "temporary relief" would be provided by nearby Regions, hinting at temporary removal of waste to Epirus.

This is what Adonis Georgiades said: "Regarding the issue of waste - this is a Waterloo of insurmountable proportions. When Ms. Dourou was elected she inherited the Attica Regional Plan from Mr. Sgouros. She decided to cancel it because we, who are against the memorandum, collect our refuse in a different way from those who are pro-memorandum. OK, she cancelled it. Did she put anything different in its place? The answer is no - because we are obsessed with our tribal differences. All the Regions that cancelled the Regional Plan that was drawn up in the Samaras Government up to 2014 now have problems with refuse.

Refuse is taken from Aigio to Kozani. Epirus and Western Macedonia are the only two Regions in Greece that decided to go against the SYRIZA Government's orders and didn't cancel the Samaras Government's Regional Plan. These are the only two regions that today have modern waste processing facilities and will be used temporarily to relief Regions like the Ionian Islands.

Take a look at what is happening in Corfu, where the SYRIZA Regional Governor Galiatsatos decided to do absolutely nothing and has left Corfu drowning in rubbish because of his incompetence. What should we do? Should we eat the rubbish? I tell you, Epirus and Western Macedonia followed the Samaras Government Plan and today they have the facilities and don't have a problem with refuse. The Ionian Islands and Attica cancelled the Samaras Government Plan and what happened? Nothing! That was the SYRIZA Plan and they have the nerve to criticise us!"
