Corfu Scouts clean up the Memorial to firefighting hero Athanasios Beslemes

CORFU. In recent years Corfu Scouts have considered it their ΄sacred duty΄ to clean up and look after the Memorial to Flying Officer Athanasios Beslemes.
Athanasios Beslemes lost his life on 7 August 2000 when, in his efforts to put out the fire in the inhabited area, the firefighting plane he was flying crashed in Troumpeta.
Corfu 3rd Scout Group cleaned up the area and raised the flag, something which is also done regularly by the 359AEDY Firefighting Squad when it is in Corfu during the firefighting period.
The Alimatades Community President Giorgos Katsaros, speaking on TV, registered his complaint against the Municipal Technical Services. He had sent a request for the road leading to the memorial to be repaired to allow better access and the area around it to be cleaned up but received no response!
