Kostas Nikolouzos: We should learn from the history of the Jewish Community

CORFU. Corfu Mayor Kostas Nikolouzos spoke at the special Memorial Event for the Corfu Jewish Community on Sunday.
The event took place in the People's Park on Sunday morning and there was a wide range of presentations by historians and academics - followed by discussions which, it was stressed, need to be continued.
In the evening there was a concert with the group Klezmer Yunan in honour of the longtime presence of the Jews in Corfu and in memory of the incidents of 9 June 1944.
The events will end on Wednesday 26 June at 21:00 with a concert by 'Mantzaros' Philharmonic Society and the 'San Giacomo' Municipal Choir in the Jewish Quarter conducted by Socrates Anthis and Antony Ivanof.
The concert will include the following:
1. Hatikva (The Hope): Traditional - arranged by John Williams
2. Theme from “Schindler’s List: Music by John Williams, arranged by Calvin Custer. Clarinet solo: Angelos Gremmi.
3. Shalom Aleichem: Written by Rov Fridman, Bela Kovacs. Solo clarinet: Dimitris Argyros.
4.The Ballad of Mauthausen: (extracts) Written by Mikis Theodorakis, Poetry by Iakovos Kabanelis.
5. Spiritual March: Music - Mikis Theodorakis, Poetry - Angelos Sikelianos. Sophia Kapetanakou (Mezzo), Pantelis Kontos (baritone).
