CORFU. Fishing nets got caught up in the engine of the ΄Ilida΄ which was sailing from Gaia, Paxos to Corfu with 104 passengers.

According to Corfu Port Authority, the vessel was 3 nautical miles from Corfu Port on Monday evening when the Captain of the 'Ilida' discovered that fishing nets had got caught up in the port engine shaft.

The vessel continued on its own power on a conventional tack to Corfu New Port, where passengers disembarked safely.

An inspection team boarded the vessel and professional divers removed the net from the port engine shaft. When testing the port engine a fault was found with the starboard turbo blower.

The Ilida was forbidden from sailing until the damage was repaired and was given a certificate of seaworthiness.
