Changes for those travelling to and from non-Schengen countries

Schengen
09 Apr 2019 / 06:24

Changes came into force on Monday 8 April for Europeans travelling to and from non-Schengen countries.

The Hellenic Police will be enforcing European Regulation 458/2017 and there will be passport controls for all Europeans travelling to and from non-Schengen countries and cross-checking with a database.

Even citizens of countries in the Schengen area will have to go through controls when travelling to and from non-Schengen countries.

Statement from Athens 'El. Venizelos' Airport

We wish to inform you that from 8 April 2019 the Hellenic Police will be enforcing European Regulation 458/2017 and there will be passport controls for all Europeans travelling to and from non-Schengen countries and cross-checking with a database.

Because of the expected increase in waiting time at passport control we would like to request passengers travelling to non-Schengen countries -

- to go to Passport Control in plenty of time so that they have time to get to their departure gate.

- to use their passport rather than Identity Card in order to speed up the procedure.
