Lausanne joins Capodistrias City Network

CORFU. The existing members are Corfu, Nafplio, Aegina, Ammochostos and Koper-Capodistria (Slovenia).

There was a meeting of the members of the Capodistrias City Network in Corfu on Saturday 23 March.

- It was agreed unanimously that Lausanne join the network as part of the policy to extend the network to include other towns and cities historically connected to the First Governor of modern Greece. Lausanne City Council had decided to apply for membership following a proposal from the Network.

- There was a comprehensive update on the creation of a Cultural Route, 'Ioannis Capodistrias' with the collaboration of all the network city-members following a recent meeting with the Ministry of Culture initiated by Corfu. In collaboration with the Ministry of Culture, this would operate within the framework of other similar Council of Europe Cultural Routes - highlighting the European dimension of Capodistrias' life and work. As presiding city, Corfu will take the necessary next steps for the creation of the Cultural Route.

- Deputy Mayor for Tourism Vassilis Kavadias updated the members on the 2nd Corfu Food and Wine Festival (May 2019) "Tastes and Music - in the Footsteps of Capodistrias". On the 200th anniversary of Capodistrias' Easter meeting with the Greek chieftains in Corfu in 1819 the Food and Wine Festival will be highlighting the era and the places that influenced the philosophy and work of this great European politician.

- The Network's website was discussed in order to ensure that it is continuously updated with news and announcements.

Participating in the meeting were: Network President 2018-19 - the Mayor of Corfu, Kostas Nikolouzos; President of Corfu Town Council, Maria Mouzakiti; Network representatives from Aegina and Nafplio Giorgos Tsatiris and Androniki Tzomaka; Konstantinos Hatzikakos from Ammochostos  Town Council. The Director of the Capodistrias Museum Daria Koskorou was also present.
