Extra guards and cleaners to be recruited for archaeological sites and museums

The approval of the Public Recruitment Office (ASEP) is expected by 27 March and the recruitment procedure to be completed by the end of April.

The recruitment procedure for extra guards and cleaners at archaeological sites and museums in Athens is underway and will be completed by 15 April after which the extended opening hours (08:00 - 20:00) will come into force.

For the rest of the country the approval from ASEP is expected by 27 March and the recruitment procedure to be completed by the end of April after which the extended opening hours will come into force there as well.

Meanwhile, until the recruitment procedure is completed and in collaboration with Antiquity Inspectorates, from 1 April the opening hours of important archaeological sites and museums will be extended compared to last year. Specifically: Acropolis (08:00-18:00), Knossos (08:00-18:00), Delphi (08:30-19:00), Epidaurus archaeological site & museum (08:00-19:00), Mycenae (08:00-19:00), Tiryns (08:00)-19:00), Nafplio Palamidi Fortress (08:00-19:00) and Lindos (08:30-17:00).

Until the recruitment procedure has been completed the remaining archaeological sites and museums will open from 08:30 to 16:00. In this way the opening times during the transitional period will be extended by 30 minutes and the sites and museums will be open for one hour longer than previous years.

It has also been requested that personnel working in the shops be included in the Antiquity Inspectorates in order for the opening times to be extended where possible.
