TRIKALA. Trikala was flooded with cheerleaders this weekend with the 2nd Greek Cheerleading Cup.
Over 300 competitors were at Trikala Indoor Basketball Court to take part in the Cheer Challenge section of the Cup Competition.
Corfu was represented by Corfu Sirens of the North who had two teams and one solo competitor and won the following awards:
1. Team 1 Dolls / Sirens - Cup winners (1st place and gold medal in the Junior A category).
2. Elite Goldgirls / Sirens - Bronze medal, 3rd place in the Seniors category.
3. Sophia Kritikou - 4th place in the Junior category.
Anna Apostolopoulou, Sirens teacher, coach and General Secretary stated that the Greek Cheerleading Cup is the most difficult Cheerleading competition as in one day international coaches teach all the teams an unknown routine which they then have to perform the following day in competition with the other teams. This makes the participation of the Sirens in the Greek Cup and the awards even more special. Cheerleading is considered a sport and only sports clubs who are members of the Federation can compete in cup competitions and championships.
