Guidelines from the Cleansing Department regarding the disposal of rubble and building waste

fly-tipping
25 Feb 2019 / 13:36

CORFU. The Municipal Cleansing Department has issued the following statement regarding the common practice of fly-tipping rubble:

A serious problem, which is becoming even more serious due to increased building activity in preparation for the tourist season, is the fly-tipping of aggregates (rubble, door and window casings, glazing, dismantled materials etc.) in open areas or even in refuse bins, resulting in injuries to refuse collectors or damage to the refuse trucks.

Fly-tipping also causes wanton damage to the environment and the beauty of the area.

Excavation, Construction and Demolition Waste (AEKK) should be managed with a view to recycling it in order to protect the environment and to reduce the amount and level of risk of waste going to the landfill.

In Corfu the Hellenic Recycling Organization (EOAN) has approved the Collective System of Alternative AEKK Management - Recycling of Aggregates South Greece-AANEL - and has the following AEKK Collection Points in Corfu:

1. Axonas A.E. (Rural road Kassiopi-Sidari-Ag. Spyridon Perithia and Danilia - next to the former Fili Quarry)

2. S. Xepapadeas & Co. E.E. (Armyros, Acharavi)

Depositing and Processing of waste at these locations is free of charge.

We would like to ask professionals in Corfu, private and public contractors as well as others not to fly-tip excavation, construction and demolition waste but to deposit it at the above locations.

The protection of the environment is the responsibility of each one of us.
