CORFU. After about two hours the police removed the Lefkimmi protestors.
Police removed the Lefkimmi protestors who had gathered at the Ionian Parliament to obstruct the Town Council meeting yet again. There were attempts to start the meeting but the shouting from the Lefkimmi residents made it impossible. After an hour the Corfu Prosecutor Maria Tataki arrived and asked the protestors to come to her office to discuss matters. She then left.
This made no difference and the Lefkimmi residents remained in the hall and continued shouting. Council President Maria Mouzakiti asked them to either take part in a democratic discussion or to leave.
Just after 2pm the police came into the hall and asked them to leave. There was a ruckus for a while but eventually the police made the protestors leave and the councillors returned to the hall to continue the meeting. The previous Council meeting was also disrupted by people from Lefkimmi but on that occasion there was no intervention from the police.
