CORFU. The Mayor of Corfu Kostas Nikolouzos made the following statement about Corfu being declared the best European location in the film and TV industries.

"The choice of Corfu as the best European location in the film and TV industries confirms that it is one of the most delightful places in Greece and Europe - a cultural crossroads between East and West.

The Municipality works systematically to make the most of its advantages - it ia always hospitable and supports film and TV productions which promote Corfu in Greece and abroad in every way it can.

We are proud that Corfu won and thank all those who supported the Greek nomination."

Corfu was the Greek nomination from the Hellenic Film Commission (EUFCN member) and the Hellenic Cinema Centre (EKK) for the 2nd EUFCN  (European Film Commission Network) Location Awards competition for the filming of the highly popular British TV series 'The Durrells' for ITV and PBS (4 series).

EUFCN has 90 members in 30 countries who promote European locations for film and audiovisual productions. The competition is being conducted in collaboration with Cineuropa. The Network celebrated its 10th anniversary last year with a special event at the European Parliament where the Award was established.
