CORFU. Corfu 4th High School has declared its opposition to protest sit-ins for the Macedonian issue.
"We condemn these type of actions," the committee said, "which not only don't produce positive results but also lead to a dead end."
Full statement
"With regard to the various protests (sit-ins, demonstrations) that are being held in various areas of Greece for the Macedonian issue we, as pupils, decided to state our position on this matter which to great degree affects school pupils.
These sit-ins are instigated by nationalist organizations (Golden Dawn) and are nationalistic in their nature. According to information, these protests are not fully supported by pupils as they are led by just a few pupils along with other groups outside the school. We have to say that these actions promote hate and fascism. Hate between two neighbouring countries and suchlike conflicts only leads to an increase in nationalistic-fascism.
We, the pupils' committee of Corfu 4th High School, condemn these type of actions, which not only don't produce positive results but also lead to a dead end. We consider that hate and bigotry have no place in our schools and our lives. An educational institute is obliged to promote solidarity and brotherhood. We mustn't let these ideas pollute pupils' consciousness and fill us with hostility and aggression. We must resist in every way we can!
WE SAY NO TO ALL FORMS OF FASCISM!"
