CORFU. The Indian Ambassador was a special guest along with visitors from all over Greece and the Balkans.

The 3rd Mushroom Festival in Sinies on Saturday 17th, organized by the local Educational and Cultural Society, was a great success, attracting a large number of participants. The Society President Yiannis Garnelis believes that there will be "even bigger surprises and more events next year".

The 'vegetable garden' with its volunteers had everything, including an afternoon walk in the Agios Stefanos area and along the Erimitis paths to discover and collect the various types of mushrooms under the guidance of the Presidents of the Greek Mushroom Lovers' Association and Epirus Mushroom Lovers' Association Giorgos Konstantinidis and Thanasis Dinos.

There was a truffle hunt with specially trained dogs led by Mr. Nakos and a run, in collaboration with 'Kassio Dia' (Ag. Stefanos - Erimitis - Ag. Stefanos).

There were also talks, with the highlight being 'Recognising the mushrooms of Greece' from Giorgos Konstantinidis. And, of course, there was the tasting at the end with the specialist chef Fotis Paraskevaidis revealing the culinary secrets of various delicious mushroom dishes.

The event culminated with a 'party' with food and music - an ideal end to a wonderful day which attracted a large number of visitors from the rest of Greece (Epirus, Thessalia, Western Macedonia, Thessaloniki and Grevena) as well as representatives from similar groups in Croatia and Serbia and the Indian Ambassador to Greece Shamma Jain, who was in Corfu for the International Jainism Symposium which took place at the Museum of Asian Arts at the weekend.
