ZAKYNTHOS. "The probabilities of having a stronger earthquake are now drastically reduced," says the President of OASP Efthymios Lekkas.
There was a 5.3 Richter earthquake just before 5 o'clock this morning in the sea to the west of Zakynthos.
This is the strongest after-shock following the 6.6 Richter earthquake on 26 October and is close to the 5.5 after-shock that seismologists expected.
"This is very good news," said Efthymios Lekkas, President of OASP (Anti-Seismic Planning and Protection Organization) - explaining that it released a large amount of energy.
"This drastically reduces the probabilities of a stronger earthquake," he told SKAI TV channel. "We had estimated, based on all the international models, that the first strong after-shock would be around 5.7 - 5.9 - 10% less than the main earthquake of 6.6 Richter. The after-shocks get gradually weaker," he added.
