CORFU. KETHEA is a non-profit organization which has been in operation since 1983, when Ithaki - the first Greek therapy centre - was set up.

It works with approximately 4,000 people daily - addicts and their families - in a network of over 100 units throughout Greece. The centre also works on prevention and the training of mental health professionals in drug addiction and research. It is an advisory member of the UN Economic and Social Council (ECOSOC) in matters regarding drugs, is supervised by the Hellenic Ministry for Health and Social Solidarity and is one of the main organizations in the National Plan of Action for Tackling Drug Addiction.

The basic aims of the network are therapy, vocational guidance and re-entry into society for addicts; advisory and therapeutic support for the families of drug, alcohol, gambling and internet addicts; development of preventative measures and training of mental health professionals and research in the field of drug addiction.

All of the Centre's services are free and have to be voluntarily requested. Psycho-social methods are used without the use of medicine or substitute substances.

Epirus KETHEA is one of the integrated units of KETHEA and works with drug, alcohol, gambling and internet addicts and their families in the Epirus region and the Ionian Islands. Over 900 addicts and 1,450 parents, family members and friends have passed through the centre which has been in operation since September 2007.

There is a serious problem with drug addiction on the island and around 50 drug addicts and 100 parents travel to Ioannina and Igoumenitsa for meetings annually - involving huge travel expenses.

For this reason, KETHEA is opening an advisory centre in Corfu Town at Athanassiou Politi 27 on Friday 19 October. The centre will be open every Friday 09:00 - 17:00 to give advice and support to people with addiction problems and their families.
