CORFU. The protest, organized by Lefkimmi Cultural Society, took place in the shadow of the serious injury to the Lefkimmi resident who lost his right hand.

There was tension at Sunday's protest when Lefkimmi residents attempted yet again to approach the landfil and the riot police (MAT) rebuffed them with the use of chemicals. According to police sources, the 32-year-old man was holding an explosive device when it went off, seriously injuring his right hand and causing minor injuries to other parts of his body and his head.

The convoy set off from the southernmost tip of Corfu and ended up at Liston in Corfu Town, where protestors shouted slogans such as "North and South together - out with the cancer and fascism" as well as slogans against the Mayor of Corfu.

The protestors then proceeded to Corfu Hospital to show their support for the injured 32-year-old.
