British Ambassador meets Corfu Mayor at Old Town Hall

CORFU. The British Ambassador to Greece Kate Smith met with the Mayor of Corfu on Monday afternoon accompanied by the Deputy Vice-Consul Charlie Pikoulas.
At the meeting, which was mainly a courtesy visit, they discussed tourism and the significant increase in the percentage of British visitors over the last few years. They also discussed issues of concern to British residents in Corfu.
Ms Smith talked about the Embassy's efforts to keep British visitors to the island informed so that they can take any necessary precautions regarding, for example, security. She also referred to the collaboration with the island's authorities (police, fire service) on crisis management and tackling acts of terrorism.
They went on to discuss the problems that Corfu is facing (refuse collection, water supply, road network) and Mr. Nikolouzosreferred to the Municipality's priorities and the planning that is in place to deal with the problems.
The Deputy Mayor for Tourism Vassilis Kavadias was also present at the meeting and requested the collaboration of the Embassy in the organization of the Corfu Food & Wine Festival which took place for the first time this year.
Talk at the Corfu Reading Society
In the evening Ms Smith gave a talk at the Reading Society on the subject of 'British-Hellenic Friendship in Corfu.'
