CORFU. The Philharmonic Youth Band will be performing its traditional summer concerts on Monday 23rd and Tuesday 24th July. The theme this year is music from around the world.
On Monday 23rd July the concert will take place at the Scout Headquarters in Faliraki and on Tuesday 24th in the Church of St. Spyridon Square (Plakada tou Agiou).
The concerts 'set off' from Corfu with conductor Spyros Prosoparis and then travel to Italy with a selection of arias, canzonettas and tarantellas by Robert Longfield. There will also be works illustrating the musical traditions of Spain, Africa, New Orleans, Cuba, Britain, the Balkans and the 'Wild West'.
The programme finishes with songs by Dionysis Savvopoulos and Manos Hadzidakis adapted by Spyros Mavropoulos and Spyros Prosoparis respectively.
Both concerts begin at 21:30 and admission is free.
