New funding of 713,000 Euros for recycling in Corfu

CORFU. Yellow bins will be provided for the collection of paper and cardboard which will be picked up separately by refuse trucks used solely for that purpose.
Following the signature of the Ionian Islands Regional Governor Theodoros Galiatsatos, the project 'Development of separate network for the collection of recyclable paper (excluding packaging/containers) - Corfu Municipality' has been included in the Ionian Islands Business Programme 2014-20 with funding of 713,000 Euros.
The project 'Development of separate network for the collection of recyclable paper (excluding packaging/containers) - Corfu Municipality' is part of the Business Programme 'Infrastructure for Transport, Environment and Sustainable Development 2014-20'.
Yellow bins will be provided for the collection of paper and cardboard apart from packaging and containers (e.g. newspapers, cardboard, cardboard boxes, writing paper, magazines, catalogues, books, greeting cards etc.) as well as refuse trucks for them to be collected separately.
Yellow Bins (500 x 1,100 litre and 1,000 x 660 litre) to complete the public network of separate collection bins grouped together.
2 Compression Refuse Trucks (20 cubic metres and 16 cubic metres)
1 Open Lorry (5 cubic metres) to collect paper from businesses, public services, hotels etc. and then transfer it to the bigger trucks.
The other types of waste will be collected as follows:
- Bio-waste - Brown Bins
- Glass - Blue Bell Bins
- Paper, plastic & metal packaging & containers - Blue Bins
- Remaining waste - Green Bins
Recyclable materials will be taken to Temploni for processing or to another licensed facility for alternative treatment.
The project ends on 30/6/2020 and is co-funded by the Cohesion Fund.
