CORFU. The island of Mathraki has set up a composting area in collaboration with the volunteer group ΄ Corfu Compost Project΄.
The group is made up of volunteers with expertise and has been involved in setting up such facilities in other areas on the island such as Spartylas and Dassia. The construction is very simple and plays an important role in helping the environment and reducing the amount of mixed waste.
The group went to Mathraki on Saturday and created the facility where residents of the island can take their organic waste. Deputy Mayor Noni Mastora was also there and expressed her delight at this initiative from the Corfu Compost Project.
"If we don't do this in places like Mathraki, then where are we going to do it?" she told Enimerosi. "Organic waste shouldn't be coming to us - we should only have recyclable waste."
