Over 20 choirs from all over the world to take part in the 2nd Corfu International Choir Festival

CORFU. The aim is to establish the International Choir Festival & Competition as a regular event.

There was a press conference at the Old Town Hall this afternoon for the 2nd Corfu International Choir Festival & Competition that will take place 12 – 16 September 2018. Prior to the press conference the entities involved in the Festival met to discuss its organization.

Participants

Up to now choirs from the following countries have registered to take part: China, Czech Republic, Denmark, Ecuador, Estonia, Finland, Holland, Norway, Poland, Russia, Turkey and UK.

Corfu Mayor Kostas Nikolouzos said, “Our aim is to establish the International Choir Festival & Competition as a regular event. It is very encouraging that by the end of February 16 choirs from all over the world had already registered to take part and we believe that by the middle of May, which is the deadline for registrations, there will be over 20 or 25 foreign choirs.”

Interkultur Artistic Director

“We are very happy to be in Corfu once again,” said Fred Sjoberg, the Interkultur General Artistic Director. “The green island of music where choirs from all over the world will come together in September. For us 2018 is a special year because Interkultur has now been operating for 30 years and we will celebrate with a big party in Corfu. We are very happy with our collaboration up to now and look forward to welcoming our visitors in September.”

The Festival is co-organized by the Ionian University, the Municipality of Corfu and the Ionian Islands Regional Administration along with the support of the Choir Union and Corfu Events Organization. The following were also present at the press conference: Miranda Kaldi, professor of Choral Conducting at the Ionian University, Pantelis Kontos, Vice-President of the Choir Union, Gavril Heirdaris, President of Corfu Events Organization and Julia Hoppe, Festival Coordinator.
