CORFU. Read what the President of Lefkimmi Cultural Society, Maria Kontomari, has to say.

Access to Lefkimmi landfill is now impossible due to a trench being dug by unknown persons without apparently being seen by the facility guards. The 'trench', which is about 1 metre deep, was dug by mechanical diggers on the road connecting the facility to the main road network thus blocking any approach and obstructing the work to open up the road which is a precondition for permission to operate the facility being granted.

Corfu Mayor Kostas Nikolouzos told Enimerosi, "The guard found the trench on Good Friday. He called me and I then contacted the Deputy Mayor for South Corfu and told him to ask our lawyer to press charges. We will have an expert's report within the next few days as we have to repair it. The police have recorded the incident and we have to wait and see how they will follow it up. We pressed charges on Good Friday and can only wait and see how the State functions."

The President of Lefkimmi Cultural Society, Maria Kontomari, told Enimerosi that she knows absolutely nothing about the incident. She herself found out through the media and thinks that whoever did it has nothing to do with the Society or with the local residents.
