Ionian Islands Region takes part in FoodExpo for first time
Greece’s biggest food and drink exhibition took place 10 – 12 March at the Metropolitan Expo in Spata, just outside Athens.
The Ionian Islands Region took part in the exhibition for the first time with 14 producers from the islands exhibiting products such as wine, olive oil, kumquat, beer, raisins and tzitzibira. Wine producers from the region also had a stand at Oenorama – the biggest exhibition of Greek wines in the world – at the Zappion in Athens on the same days.
Deputy Regional Governor for the Primary Sector and Communications, Yiannis Fontanas, and Regional Councillor, Giorgos Sigouros, visited the exhibition along with other representatives from the region and the Ionian Islands Agri-food Cooperative who all had the chance to talk with producers.
The producers said that they were happy that they had the opportunity to make positive contacts with representatives and businesses from Greece and abroad and amongst themselves they discussed ways of working together to continue promoting Ionian Islands products.
Regional representatives promised that, following the evaluation of the first four primary sector exhibitions that they participated in, they would hold discussions with all the producer-exhibitors in order to plan activities for the remainder of 2018 and 2019.
