Lefkimmi vindicated by the decision to transport waste out of Corfu
CORFU. Maria Kontomari, President of Lefkimmi Cultural Society, told Enimerosi that she considered last night’s unanimous decision – following hours of discussion at the Council meeting – to be a step forward.
“Certainly it isn’t what we expected, but the decision is a step forward,” she said and added that the residents of south Corfu felt satisfied.
Nevertheless, they aren’t completely reassured as they are still waiting to see what will happen in the coming days and whether or not the Council will implement what they agreed.
Concluding, Ms Kontomari stressed that they were waiting for the representative committee to be set up. It was agreed that this committee will go to the Ministry of the Interior in order to seek funding for the waste transportation during the intermediate period prior to the establishment of an Integrated Waste Management facility.
