CORFU. The French Ambassador, Céline Pendariés, paid a courtesy visit yesterday to the Deputy Mayor of Corfu, Giorgos Pantelios, standing in for the mayor, Kostas Nikolouzos, who is in Ioannina for the annual conference of the Central Union of Greek Municipalities (KEDE).

The meeting took place in the Maraslio Municipality Building and the Ambassador was accompanied by the French Consul in Corfu, Rozadenia Karamoutsou.

Ms. Pendariés and Mr. Pantelios discussed the friendly relationship between Greece - especially Corfu – and France and the Consul thanked the Municipality for the support it offers to French tourists and residents of the island whenever it is needed. Mr. Pantelios spoke of the excellent cooperation that exists between the Municipality and the consulate, and especially the Consul, going on to say that this cooperation could be expanded to include many other areas – for example, culture.

Ms. Pendariés suggested the twinning of Corfu with a French municipality and Mr. Pantelios informed her of the decision of the Capodistrias Network to expand to include other cities that are connected with Ioannis Capodistrias (first Governor of modern Greece) such as Paris.

Finally, Mr. Pantelios updated the Consul on matters of interest to her, such as tourism, the economy, Corfu infrastructure and the municipality’s priorities.
