CORFU.Several areas in Corfu are without electricity following yesterday’s bad weather. In Garitsa and Kanoni, electricity should now be restored and the next areas to be dealt with are Agros, Karousades and Ag. Giannis. The area around Strinila should have power restored today.
According to the Hellenic Electricity Distribution Network Operator (DEDIE), there are only two repair crews for the whole of Corfu – who have to deal with all the damage done by lightning. The crews have been making superhuman efforts to cover as many areas as possible.
It should be pointed out that despite the weather forecast and emergency warnings from the National Meteorological Service (EMY), the Municipality of Corfu didn’t have more than two repair crews available.
